Man charged over armed robbery in Newcastle

A man will face court today, charged over an alleged armed robbery in Newcastle overnight, NSW Police say.

Just after 5pm (Sunday 9 September 2018), police will allege the man entered a liquor store on Hunter Street, and threatened a male employee with a knife.

The man fled with a bottle of alcohol.

No one was physically injured.

Officers from Newcastle Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Just before 5.30pm, officers arrested a 21-year-old man at a bus stop on King Street.

During a search of his backpack, officers located the bottle of alcohol, a knife, and a stolen credit card.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, steal from person, and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Monday 10 September 2018).
