Man charged over assault in Wollongong

A man has been charged following an alleged assault in Wollongong last week, NSW Police say.

About 11am on Friday 27 May 2016, a 46-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by two men outside a home in Corrimal Street.

The man was allegedly thrown to the ground and kicked in the head by the two men who left the scene following the assault.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for serious facial injuries and later transferred to the Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick for specialised treatment and has since been released.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command attended and commenced investigations into the incident.

About 9pm yesterday, officers sighted a 21-year-old man driving in Corrimal Street.

He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with assault with reckless grievous bodily harm in company.

The man was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today.

Investigations are continuing.
