Man charged over assault police Southport

A man has been charged after three police officers were injured at the Southport Watchhouse in the early hours of this morning, Queensland Police say.

It is alleged around 4.20am the man became violent with police while being placed into a cell.

During the incident it is alleged three police officers were injured with a female constable receiving a strain and bruising to her wrist, chest and elbow, a male senior constable receiving a strain and bruising to his wrist and a male sergeant sustaining a possible rib cartilage tear.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with three counts of assault or obstruct police officer and is also facing an earlier public nuisance offence.

He is due to face Southport Court Magistrates Court today.
