Man Charged Over Break-In, Sexual Touching

A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged break-in and sexual touching on the Far North Coast earlier this year.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District commenced an investigation following a report that an 18-year-old woman was inside a home in Banora Point, just before 9.30am on Wednesday 1 February 2023, when a man broke into the property. She was allegedly sexually touched before the man left the scene.

Following a public appeal for assistance, Tweed/Byron PD detectives – assisted by officers from Queensland Police – executed a search warrant on a property at Haig Street, Coolangatta, about 2.30pm last Thursday (6 April 2023). A number of items were seized for further examination.

Later that same day, a 28-year-old man was arrested when he attended Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent knowing people there, and sexually touch another person without consent.

He was refused police bail and appeared in Tweed Heads Local Court on Thursday 7 April 2023.

He was subsequently granted conditional bail to appear in the same court on Monday 24 April 2023.
