Man charged over carjacking in Kogarah

A man has been charged over a carjacking at Kogarah on New Year's Day.

About 10:25pm (Tuesday 1 January 2018), a 52-year-old woman parked her Toyota Yaris on Railway Parade, Kogarah.

A man approached the woman and threatened her with a knife before demanding she leave the vehicle.

The woman complied, and the man drove off in the car heading north on Railway Parade, towards Rockdale.

Officers from St George Police Area Command were notified and patrolled for the vehicle without success.

On Thursday 10 January 2019, the vehicle was involved in a pursuit with police in Campsie, however the pursuit ended when police lost sight of the vehicle.

Following further inquiries, today (Thursday 17 January 2019), police arrested a 31-year-old man in Kogarah after he was located inside the vehicle.

The car also allegedly had stolen number plates attached.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with armed robbery, larceny, police pursuit, fraud, and drive whilst disqualified.

He was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court tomorrow (Friday 18 January 2019).
