Man charged over detergent deceptions

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a number of deceptions targeting older victims in the western suburbs, Victoria Police say.

It is alleged that the man approached victims, usually in their homes or working in the garden, and offered them cheap detergent or alcohol.

After receiving a deposit from the victims, in some cases $500, the man allegedly failed to return with the goods or delivered drums of soapy water.

The 51-year-old Burnside Heights man was charged with six counts of obtain property by deception and remanded in custody to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on 29 November.
