Man charged over drugs – Mermaid Beach

A man has been charged after the alleged discovery of a large quantity of an illegal drug, suspected of being crystal methamphetamine, in a car at Mermaid Beach last month, Queensland Police say.

Around 6.50am on October 16, 2018 a black Mercedes Benz was located with its boot unlocked on the Gold Coast Highway near Markeri Street.

Police attended and established the vehicle was stolen. During a search of the vehicle one kilogram of a drug suspected of being methamphetamine was allegedly located in the glove box.

A 26-year-old man from Mermaid Beach has been charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous drug and one count each of possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence and possess thing.

He has already been arrested over the unlawful use of a motor vehicle in connection to black Mercedes Benz.

He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Investigations are continuing.
