Man charged over high-end frauds, NSW

A man has been charged over a number of fraud offences committed against high-end fashion retailers in Sydney, NSW Police say.

Yesterday (Thursday 11 January 2018), police received information relating to a fraud committed against a watch retailer on George Street, Sydney.

Police were told fraudulent cheque was used to purchase five watches with a value of $75,000.

Investigators determined the incident was linked to other fraud offences committed since May 2017, which totalled about $250,000.

All the offences involved using fraudulent cheques to order expensive items, including watches and bags.

An operation was conducted and about 5.15pm yesterday (Thursday 11 January 2018), police arrested a 35-year-old man at a car dealership in Alexandria.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with five counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 12 January 2018).

Inquiries continue.
