Man Charged Over Mulgrave Scrub Fires, Criminal Damage

Monash and Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a spate of incidents in Melbourne's east.

A 28-year-old Mulgrave man has been charged with four counts of arson and two counts of criminal damage.

The charges relate to several alleged arson and criminal damage incidents throughout September and October.

Over a period of two months, police were called to a series of reports that allege seven grass and scrub fires were deliberately lit in Mulgrave Reserve.

It is also alleged that a reciprocating saw was used to cut down a bridge in the parklands and an axe was used to chop down at least 50 trees.

Investigators arrested the man in the Mulgrave area yesterday morning.

He's been bailed and will appear before Ringwood Magistrates' Court on 29 April 2024.
