Man charged over multiple stealing, property-related offences in Glebe

A man is due to face court today over a number of alleged stealing and property-related offences following a foot pursuit with police in Sydney’s Inner West yesterday morning, NSW Police say.

About 6.30am today, officers attached to Leichhardt Local Area Command were conducting patrols of the local area, when they stopped a man riding a push bike on Wentworth Street, Glebe.

While speaking with the man, he rode away and police gave chase.

The man dumped his push bike in Wentworth Park and continued to run from police into a school on Quarry Street, Ultimo.

He was arrested a short time later and taken to Newtown Police Station.

During a subsequent search of the man, police located a backpack containing numerous items believed to have been stolen including multiple mobile phones, gifts cards, credit cards and other personal documentation.

Following further inquiries the man, aged 42, was charged with 19 offences including thirteen counts of goods in custody, possess identification documents, fraud, possess housebreaking implements, enter enclosed lands and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear before Newtown Local Court today tomorrow.
