Man charged over pursuit with children in car in Coopernook

A man has been charged over a pursuit during which he was allegedly drink driving with four children in the car, NSW Police say.

About 2.20pm today, police from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command detected a Holden Commodore travelling at 119km on the Pacific Highway, Coopernook, on the NSW North Coast.

The pursuit continued for 28km before being terminated by police at Harrington due to dangerous driving by the Commodore driver.

After further inquiries, about 3.15pm, police stopped a 40-year-old man who was riding a bicycle on Crowdy Bay Road, Crowdy Bay.

He allegedly admitted to driving the Commodore and was subject to a breath test, which returned a positive reading.

He was taken to Taree Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit (Skye’s Law), exceed speed, and mid-range PCA.

He was granted to appear at Taree Local Court on Wednesday 31 May 2017.

Police allege there were four children in the vehicle at the time of the pursuit, aged between two and eight, and also the man’s wife.
