Man charged over supermarket robbery at Darlington , SA

A man who allegedly robbed a supermarket at Darlington last night and was then wrestled to the ground by customers, will face court tomorrow, according to SA Police.

Just before 7pm on Saturday 27 May, a man entered a supermarket on Seacombe Road and allegedly demanded cash from a shop assistant. The assistant couldn't access the till, so the man walked behind the counter and attempted to open it without success.

The suspect has then allegedly grabbed some instant lottery tickets from behind the counter and ran from the store.

Shop customers have then given chase, apprehending the suspect and wrestling him to the ground until police patrols arrived.

The 30-year-old man from Sturt has been charged with robbery and theft, he has been refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Sturt Police are investigating if this incident is linked to an earlier theft at an ATM at the Marion Shopping Centre at about 5.30pm last night. A man of similar description stole cash from a woman as she left the ATM.
