Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged a man over three alleged armed robberies of fast food restaurants in Sydney’s south-west two months ago, NSW Police say.
In the first incident, an unknown man entered a restaurant on Elizabeth Drive, Bonnyrigg, about 3.40am on Friday 15 June 2018, and threatened staff with a knife and demanded cash.
The man stole cash before fleeing the scene on foot.
About 5.20am on Wednesday 20 June 2018, an unknown man entered the same restaurant and threatened staff with a knife and demanded cash. He stole cash before running from the store.
In the third incident, an unknown man entered a restaurant on Sherwood Road, Merrylands, about 7.15 on Sunday 24 June 2018, and threatened staff with a knife, demanding cash.
The man stole cash before running from the store and driving away in a dark-coloured Jeep.
No one was physically injured in any of the robberies.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime noted potential links between the incidents and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Porbeagle.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home at Kings Langley, just after 7am yesterday (Thursday 23 August 2018).
During the search, police seized various items relevant to the investigation, and during a search of a vehicle, investigators located ‘ice’.
A 33-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Riverstone Police Station.
He was charged with three counts of robbery while armed with dangerous weapon and supply prohibited drug.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Blacktown Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Thursday 18 October 2018.
