Man charged over unit fire in Redfern

A man has been charged over a deliberately lit fire at Waterloo, NSW Police say.

About 7am today (Tuesday 24 July 2018), a 43-year-old man attended a unit on Cooper Street, Waterloo, and was allowed inside by the residents, who were known to him.

About 9.35am, the man allegedly deliberately lit a fire inside the unit. He also walked outside the unit and threw an object through a closed glass window.

As a result the unit was engulfed in flames. The four occupants, three men and a woman, escaped the unit and were treated for smoke inhalation.

A short time later, police arrested the 43-year-old man on Turner Lane, Redfern.

He was taken to Redfern Police Station and charged with damage property by fire.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow (25 July 2018).
