A man has been charged as part of ongoing investigations into the murder of Robert Tran in Sydney’s south-west more than two years ago, NSW Police say.
About 10.45pm on Saturday 2 July 2016, police and emergency services were called to Jasmine Crescent, Cabramatta, following reports a man had been shot.
On arrival, local police located the body of 24-year-old Robert Tran on the road.
Mr Tran’s vehicle, a white VW Golf GTI, was driven from the scene shortly after his murder and inquiries revealed it was abandoned in the car park of a licensed premises on Merrylands Road, Greystanes, about midnight.
The car was found after it was set alight about 4.30am five days later (Thursday 7 July 2016).
Crime scenes were established at both locations and examined by specialist forensic officers.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Mackane to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Tran’s murder.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives arrested a 24-year-old man at Surry Hills Police Station yesterday (Monday 10 September 2018).
The Croydon Park man was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and damage property by fire.
Police will allege in court the man deliberately set Mr Tran’s vehicle on fire after the murder.
He was refused bail and appeared at Central Local Court today (Tuesday 11 September 2018), where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Monday 17 September 2018.
Investigations into Mr Tran’s murder are continuing.
Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Mackane investigators to call Crime Stoppers.
