Police and emergency services responded to reports of a house fire in Taylor Court just before 6.30am on Thursday 2 February.

The occupants of the home, a woman and two young children, managed to escape the blaze but sustained burns in the fire.

The woman and one child was taken to the Port Pirie Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while the other child was airlifted to Adelaide for treatment of serious burns.

As a result of investigations, a 46-year-old man from Port Pirie was charged with arson and acts to endanger life. The man has been refused bail and is expected to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court today.

Police advise that this was not a random incident and the arrested man was known to the occupants of the home.
