Man charged with attempted murder in Nimbin

A man will face court tomorrow after stabbing a woman in the state’s Northern Rivers region, NSW Police say.

About 10am yesterday, a 51-year-old man and 47-year-old woman were at a home on Gungas Road, Nimbin, when they became involved in an argument.

Police have been told the woman was assaulted with a hammer and stabbed multiple times, before being able to contact Triple Zero (000), after the man fled the scene.

Emergency services attended and treated the woman for multiple stab wounds to her legs, arms and torso, before being taken to Lismore Hospital, where she underwent surgery.

About midday today, officers attached to Richmond Local Area Command arrested a 51-year-old man.

He was taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with cause wounding with intent to murder.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Lismore Local Court on Sunday 23 April 2017.
