A man has been charged with firearm offences, following a rural crime investigation in the state's Monaro region.
In February 2026, Rural Crime Investigators attached to Monaro Police District commenced an investigation into the illegal possession of firearms in the Bungendore area.
About 11am yesterday (Monday 4 May 2026), officers attached to Monaro Police District served a Firearms Prohibition Order and Weapons Prohibition Order at a home in Spring Creek Road, Bungendore.
Officers searched the property, with assistance from the NSW Dog Unit, and seized ammunition, a firearm silencer, slingshot, bolt action rifle and prohibited drugs.
A 78-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.
He was charged with seven offences - possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, possess, supply or make explosive for unlawful purpose, three counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, possess unauthorised firearm and not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today ( Tuesday 5 May 2026).
