Man Charged With High PCA After Kiama Downs Crash

A man has been charged with high range PCA and had his firearms seized, following a crash south of Wollongong.

About 9am yesterday (Tuesday 28 April 2026) emergency services were called to the intersection of Meehan Drive and Riverside Drive, Kiama Downs following reports of a single vehicle crash.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District responded and were told a car had left the road and struck a traffic light.

The driver allegedly left the scene, in his car, prior to police arrival.

Following inquiries, police pulled over the 41-year-old driver on Riverside Drive, Kiama Downs.

Police will allege the man had a 4-year-old male passenger in the backseat.

He was subjected to a roadside breath test and allegedly returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he returned a reading of 0.281.

Following further inquiries, police found the man was a firearms license holder. Police attended a home in Kiama Downs, and seized four rifles, ammunition and three paintball guns.

His firearms licence and driver's licence were seized and suspended.

He was issued with a court attendance notice for High Range PCA to appear in Kiama Local Court on Monday 1 June 2026.
