Man charged with larceny and trespass in Newcastle

Police have charged a man with larceny and trespass after an incident in Warabrook this morning, NSW Police say.

About 12.45am today, police were called to Coachwood Drive, Warabrook, following reports of a man stealing from cars at the location.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and allegedly found a 34-year-old man inside a Toyota Hilux in Coachwood Drive.

Police allegedly found the man in possession of cash. A further search of his backpack allegedly found portable DVD players and a knife sharpener.

The man was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He has been charged with trespass, goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen and four counts of larceny.

He is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court today.

Police are urging anyone with information that has been a victim of a similar incident to call Crime Stoppers.
