Man charged with multiple offences after trying to use invalid travel card in PTC

A man has been charged with multiple offences – including break and enter, stealing a car, and multiple frauds – after officers stopped him for travelling with an invalid ticket yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 9.15am today, officers from the Police Transport Command were patrolling Town Hall Railway Station when they stopped a 24-year-old Waterloo man attempting to use an invalid travel card.

Following a search of the man, officers allegedly found property from a break and enter, a key from a stolen car, as well as other stolen property on him.

He was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with break, enter and steal, take and drive conveyance, good in custody, and four counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception.

Police will allege the man had broken into a home in Frenchs Forest the night before his arrest, where he stole property and a car. The car was later located and seized by police.

Police will further allege that the man stole property from a hotel in The Rocks and committed a number of fraud offences.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow.

Commander of the Police Transport Command, Assistant Commissioner Max Mitchell, said the arrest highlights the outstanding work done by the Police Transport Command.

"Officers from the Police Transport Command are on our trains and other public transport every day, keeping commuters safe.

"Our officers will not hesitate in pulling people over that think they can use public transport to go undetected after committing crimes.

"If you think our officers will not catch up with you, think again. We are on the network, on the platforms, and on the trains all day, every day," Assistant Commissioner Max Mitchell said.
