Man charged with murder in Taree

A man will appear in court this morning after he was charged with murder overnight at Taree, NSW Police say.


About 9.55pm on Saturday 22 January 2017, police were called to a home in Hooke Street, Taree, after reports an argument occurred between a 48-year-old man and a 56-year-old man who are known to each other.

During the argument the 48-year-old man sustained a stab wound to the chest.

Police from Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command arrived with one officer attempting to resuscitate the man.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics attended, however the man could not be revived.

The 56-year-old man was arrested at the location and conveyed to Taree Police Station.

Officers seized several items from the location which will undergo further forensic examination.

The man was later charged with murder and refused bail.

He will appear at Taree Bail Court later today.
