Man charged with murder, NSW

A man will appear in court today after the death of another man at Lake Macquarie earlier this week., NSW Police say>

Shortly after 1am on Monday 20 August 2018, a taxi driver travelling on Oakdale Road at Whitebridge discovered a 23-year-old man by the side of the road.

The man had suffered extensive burns and the taxi driver contacted emergency services.

The injured man received treatment at the scene, however, he died on the way to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Police from Lake Macquarie Police District established Strike Force Yaraandoo to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a 35-year-old man attended Belmont Police Station about 11.30am today (Tuesday 21 August 2018), where he was arrested.

He was charged with murder and bail refused to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 22 August 2018).

The two men were alleged to be known to each other.
