Man charged with performing indecent act, sexually touching teen in Marrickville

A man has been charged after he allegedly performed an act of indecency while sexually touching a teenager on a bus in Sydney’s inner west today, NSW Police say.

About 11am (Sunday 23 December 2018), a 17-year-old girl was walking through a petrol station on the corner of Illawarra Road and Hill Street, Marrickville, when an unknown man attempted to speak to her.

Police will allege the girl ignored the man and continued walking on Illawarra Road, when he approached her and spoke to her again at a bus stop.

A short time later, the girl boarded a bus travelling north on Illawarra Road and the man followed.

It’s alleged the man sat next to the girl and touched her inappropriately while performing an indecent act.

Members of the public intervened and detained the man after he got off the bus near Cook Street.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and arrested a 53-year-old man.

He was taken to Newton Police Station and charged with sexually touch another person without consent, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, and carry out sexual act with another without consent.

The man, from Marrickville, was refused bail to appear at Paramatta Local Court tomorrow (Monday 24 December 2018).
