A man will face court today following an alleged assault and robbery in Newcastle yesterday. , NSW Police say
About 12.20am (Thursday 18 January 2018), a 23-year-old man exited a bus on Maitland Road, Mayfield East.
A man approached him on O’Mara Street and demanded his wallet.
The man allegedly punched him in the face before he fled with his backpack. He was last seen running on Ingall Street, Mayfield.
About 3.30pm (Thursday 18 January 2018), an 18-year-old man was arrested at a home on Margaret Street, Mayfield East.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with robbery and resist officer in the execution of duty.
The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 19 January 2018).
