Man Charged With Serious Domestic Violence in Guildford

A man will appear in court today charged with serious domestic violence offences after allegedly detaining and assaulting a woman is Sydney's south west yesterday.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports a man allegedly broke into a Guilford home about 4am yesterday (Tuesday 7 April 2026) and threatened a woman – known to him – with a knife before restraining her hands with zip-ties and taking her phone.

The woman alerted a member of the public and contacted police.

However, the man returned to the premises and allegedly forced the woman and child into a vehicle and drove off before further assaulting the woman.

The man drove to Chester Hill where the woman was able to flee after neighbours intervened.

Following inquiries, the South West High Risk Domestic Violence Team arrested a 26-year-old man about 11.15pm at Old Guildford.

He was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - deprive liberty, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (DV), assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), destroy or damage property (DV), contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (DV), and armed with intent commit indictable offence.

The Chester Hill man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday 8 April 2026).
