Man charged with stealing, investigations into balcony fall continue, NSW

A man has been charged with stealing from a Surry Hills home after another man fell from the unit balcony, leaving him seriously injured, earlier this month, NSW Police say.

Just before 4pm on Sunday 4 November 2018, police from the Surry Hills Police Area Command were called to a unit block in Brisbane Street where a man had fallen three floors from a balcony onto a ground-floor patio, impaling himself on a table leg.

The 37-year-old Swedish/American National remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit at St Vincent’s Hospital.

Surry Hills detectives believe the injured man had earlier met with another man in the unit, via a dating app.

Following inquiries, detectives attended a home on Railway Parade at Macquarie Fields yesterday (Wednesday 21 November 2018), where they arrested a 27-year-old man.

It’s alleged the man stole items from the unit following the man’s fall.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with steal property in dwelling-house.

The man was also charged with larceny following the theft of items from a unit on Castlereagh Street in Sydney’s CBD in October.

He’s been refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 22 November 2018).

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s balcony fall are continuing and anyone with information is urged to contact Surry Hills detectives.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
