Man crashes into multiple vehicles, leads police on pursuit at Sutherland

A man has been arrested after driving into multiple vehicles, almost striking pedestrians, and leading police on a pursuit in Sydney's south.

About midnight (Saturday 27 July 2019), the man drove a Hyundai Getz travelled north on East Street, Sutherland, and collided with three vehicles.

Witnesses surrounded the vehicle however the man mounted the kerb and drove from the scene, almost striking the witnesses in the process.

The vehicle continued to the intersection of Lindon Street and The Grand Parade, where it rammed another vehicle at a set of traffic lights.

The car then continued onto Menai Road, and a short time later, police engaged the vehicle in pursuit.

At the intersection of Menai Road and Anzac Parade, Bangor, the vehicle stopped and the driver, a 61-year-old man, was removed from the vehicle and arrested.

He was taken to Sutherland Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.

A police vehicle which was responding to the incident under lights and sirens collided with a civilian vehicle, a Mazda 3, at the intersection of President Avenue and Acacia Road, Sutherland.

The male driver of the police vehicle has been taken to St George Hospital for observation. The male passenger in the police vehicle was uninjured.

The driver of the Mazda 3, a 25-year-old man, suffered minor lacerations and did not require hospital treatment.

The crash will be subject to investigation.
