Man critical after bicycle and car collide at Lake Illawarra

Police are investigating after a bicycle and a 4WD have collided in Lake Illawarra last night.

About 6pm on Wednesday, emergency services were called to the intersection of Peterborough Avenue and Dyson Road, Lake Illawarra, after reports a bicycle and car had collided.

On arrival officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command found a 51-year-old male cyclist on the roadway unconscious.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and taken to Wollongong Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The passengers in the 4WD, two women aged 22 and 54, a man aged 57 and a baby, were uninjured.

Initial investigations indicate that the man has ridden out of Dyson Avenue in front of a Ford Territory, and they have collided.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist with their inquiries to make contact.
