Man critically injured after assault - Northern Beaches

A man has been hospitalised in a critical condition after being assaulted at a beach on Sydney's Northern Beaches yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Delwood Beach, Fairlight, about 4.30pm (Sunday 10 January 2021), following reports of an assault.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics and found a 26-year-old man suffering head injuries near the rockpool.

He was treated by paramedics and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where his condition deteriorated requiring emergency surgery. He remains in a critical condition.

Police have been told the man was at the beach with friends when they were involved in a verbal argument with four males. The injured man was struck to the back of the head, causing him to fall with his head striking the ground.

The group involved have been described as being two males of Caucasian appearance and two males of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance.

Detectives have commenced an investigation and are appealing for public assistance, urging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
