Man critically injured at Port Macquarie

A man has been critically injured while surfing at a beach on the Mid North Coast today.

Just before 10.15am (Friday 25 August 2023), emergency series were called to Lighthouse Beach, near Watonga Rocks, at Port Macquarie, after reports a surfer had been injured.

The 44-year-old man was reportedly bitten by what other surfers have described as a shark, before being assisted to shore where a tourniquet was applied by witnesses.

He suffered serious leg injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Port Macquarie Hospital in a critical condition.

Officers from Mid North Coast Police District will liaise with experts from the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
