Man deceased after car drives into river in Wyong

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner after the death of a man at Wyong this evening , NSW Police say

Shortly after 6.20pm today, emergency services were advised that a car had gone into the Wyong River near River Road.

Officers believe a vehicle, which was reportedly travelling at high speed, left River Road and crashed through a barrier and into the river.

Police from Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command were quickly on the scene with one officer entering the water in an attempt to assist the driver.

After a search of the area the body of a 69-year-old local man was recovered from the river shortly after 7.30pm, but sadly he could not be revived.

Investigators have urged anyone who saw a vehicle travelling at high speed along River Road about 6.15pm today to contact Wyong Police or Crime Stoppers.
