Man detained in car for hours in Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains police are investigating reports that a man was detained by another man and driven around Katoomba for several hours on the weekend.

About 1pm (Saturday 18 July 2015), a 22-year-old man was walking in Lovell Street, Katoomba when a car pulled up next to him offering him a lift into Katoomba CBD, NSW police said.

The man entered the car and when he reached Gang Gang Street asked to be let out. The driver refused to stop and made sexual advances towards the passenger.

The driver continued to drive around the Katoomba area for several hours. At some point the man did a u-turn across the Great Western Highway near Explorers Tree, Katoomba. His actions caused several cars travelling east to brake to avoid collision.

About 4pm the passenger hit the driver a number of times, eventually causing him to pull the car over in Old Bathurst Road. The man was able to jump from the car as it slowed down and the driver continued driving towards Parkes Street.

The man was not injured and reported the incident to police.

The driver is described as being Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, 40-50-years-old with dark balding hair and an overweight build. He spoke with a thick accent, and was wearing a red hooded jumper and, dark coloured track pants at the time of the incident.

The car is described as a new model light coloured 4WD.

Investigations are continuing.
