New England Police have commenced an investigation after a man died following an assault at a campground near Armidale this morning.
About 1.40am today (Monday 2 March 2026), emergency services received a report of an assault at a campground off Point Lookout Road, Ebor about 80km east of Armidale.
Police were told two men had a verbal altercation before one of the men seriously assaulted the other.
The injured man - aged 33 - was then driven to Thora about 25km northwest of Bellingen, where NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to treat him; however, he died at the scene.
Officers attached to New England Police District have attended the campground; however, have not been able to locate the other man.
A crime scene has been established and New England detectives - with assistance from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad - have commenced an investigation into the incident.
