Man dies following assault in Darlinghurst

A man has died in hospital following an assault in Darlinghurst last week, NSW Police say.

About 10.15am (3 November 2016), a 55-year-old man was walking along Crown Street, near Kells Lane, when he was allegedly punched and kicked in the face which caused him to fall to the ground.

He suffered multiple fractures to his skull and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition. The man died today.

A 34-year-old man remains before the court on a charge of recklessly cause grievous bodily harm after being arrested on Thursday 3 November 2016.

He is next expected to appear at Central Local Court on Thursday 17 November 2016.

Police anticipate the charge will be upgraded to murder.

Police will allege the two men were not known to each other.

Meanwhile, investigations are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
