Man Dies in Balcony Fall, Critical Incident in Elizabeth Bay

A critical incident investigation is underway after a man died when he fell from an eighth-floor balcony in Sydney's east.

Police attended a unit complex on Onslow Avenue, Elizabeth Bay, just before 8am today (Sunday 30 August 2026), as part of ongoing police investgations.

On arrival, officers attached to Kings Cross Police Area Command attempted to speak with a 40-year-old man; however, spoke with a 38-year-old woman – who was inside the unit and refused police entry.

A short time later the woman left.

Whilst police remained outside the unit, they received a report that a man had fallen from a balcony. Police subsequently located the 40-year-old man and rendered assistance until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for critical injuries; however, he died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from Inner West Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
