A critical incident investigation is underway after a man died when he fell from a seventh-floor balcony in Sydney's south west overnight.
Police were called to a unit complex on Hamilton Road, Fairfield, about 2.10am today (Saturday 24 January 2026), by a female resident reporting a domestic and family violence-related incident.
On arrival, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command found a 55-year-old man straddling the balcony railing of a seventh-floor unit.
Officers on the ground were speaking with the man as other police made their way to the unit, when he fell.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for critical head injuries; however, he died at the scene.
A 46-year-old woman – who was inside the unit – was assessed by paramedics for shock and minor injuries.
A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from Auburn Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
