Man dies in hospital after crash in Aberdeen

A driver involved in a serious crash in the Hunter Valley earlier this week has died in hospital.

Shortly before 2.30pm on Monday (30 January 2017), a 54-year-old man was driving his Mazda 323, with his 52-year-old wife in the passenger seat, heading south on the New England Highway at Aberdeen.

A Ford Falcon was travelling north on the highway, being driven by a 34-year-old man.

The two cars collided head-on.

The 52-year-old woman died at the scene while her 54-year-old husband suffered serious lower leg injuries and remains in John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the Ford suffered serious internal injuries and was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, NSW Police say.

He died this morning today.

Officers from the Hunter (Newcastle) Crash Investigation Unit continue to investigate the crash and are seeking witnesses.
