A man has died in the hospital after suffering a medical episode when arrested in Sydney's west yesterday.
Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command were called to a home unit on Nipper Street, Homebush, about 8.30am yesterday (Monday 5 January 2026), responding to reports of a domestic/family violence-related incident.
Police entered the unit and deployed OC spray to effect the arrest of the 52-year-old man. A short time later, he suffered a medical episode and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. Police were subsequently advised the man died in hospital about 8.30pm.
Inquiries are continuing by a critical incident investigation team from Campbelltown City Police Area Command, with Strike Force Tigard investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will remain to be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
