Man drowns in river - Lower Portland

A man has drowned in the Colo River at Lower Portland.

About 1.40pm yesterday (Saturday 21 December 2019), emergency services were called when an 18-year-old man failed to resurface after entering the water.

Despite attempts by onlookers, he was unable to be located.

Officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command attended and commenced a search for the man, assisted by Marine Area Command and the State Emergency Service (SES), who provided vessels.

About 5.05pm (Saturday 21 December 2019), police divers located the man's body on the riverbed near where he was last seen.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
