Man due in court charged after stand-off - Surry Hills

A man has been charged following an alleged stand-off in Surry Hills overnight.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command were called to a unit on Belvoir Street about 9.30pm (Saturday 3 February 2023), following concerns about the welfare of a woman and a baby.

About 8.10am today (Sunday 4 February 2024), police forced entry to the unit and the occupant, a 36-year-old man was arrested.

The woman and baby were unharmed.

The man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with detain person with intent to gain advantage (DV), contravene AVO (two counts), break and enter and commit serious indicatable offence, and breach of bail.

He was bail refused to appear in Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Monday 5 February 2024).
