Man facing court over high-range drink driving charges on a lawn mower - Greystanes

A man will face court next month accused of high-range drink driving on a lawn mower Sydney's west.

Around 9.25pm on Tuesday (26 November 2019) police attached to Cumberland Highway Patrol were conducting Stationary Random Breath Test duties northbound on Ettalong Road, Greystanes. During this time, police observed a large orange petrol powered ride on lawn mower travelling south on the eastern footpath.

The officers on the site stopped the lawn mower and spoke to the 34-year-old man driving it. He informed police he had been travelling from Pendle Hill, approximately 2kms from where he was stopped.

Police identified that the ride on mower was in excess of 250kg and was subject to conditional registration requirements as determined by RMS. The ride on lawn mower had no registration, conditional or otherwise to allow it to be used upon a road.

Police submitted the man to a roadside breath test. The results indicated a positive reading and the man was arrested for the purpose of a breath analysis.

He was taken to Granville Police Station where he was subjected to a breath analysis, which returned a high-range reading of 0.167.

Further inquiries discovered that the man was the holder of a New South Wales learner licence, which had expired over seven years ago. It had also been disqualified until 2021 due to a number of previous traffic convictions.

The Greystanes man was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice to attend Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday 17 December 2019. He was also issued with several traffic infringement notices in relation to the unregistered mower.
