The Police Transport Command (PTC) North West has charged a man after he allegedly broke into a home while armed with a knife in Penrith yesterday.
Police have been told the 25-year-old man allegedly smashed a window at the front of the house on Penrose Crescent and tried to climb in about 3.50pm (Tuesday 14 September 2021).
He was confronted by a male resident and fled the scene.
A woman, two teenagers and a child were also home at the time; however, no one was injured.
The 25-year-old then allegedly attempted to gain entry to another home nearby but failed.
Officers from PTC North West arrived on scene a short time later and the man allegedly approached them waving the knife, as they got out of their car.
Police directed the man to drop the knife but he allegedly failed to do so. Officers deployed OC spray and arrested the man. The knife was seized for forensic examination.
The man was taken to Penrith Police Station, where he was charged with break and enter and commit indictable offence, armed with intent, resist arrest, and not comply with public health order direction.
He was refused bail to appear in Penrith Local Court today (Wednesday 15 September 2021).
