Man in court over assault, malicious damage at stadium in Sydney Olympic Park

A man will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting a man and damaging property at a Sydney Olympic Park stadium yesterday.

About 4.30pm (Monday 5 April 2021), police and security responded to a fight between two men, not known to each other, in the stands.

As police were speaking to a 25-year-old man, it's alleged he verbally abused officers before he was arrested and escorted from the stadium. He was issued infringement notices for offensive behaviour and issued a 12-month banning notice.

Shortly after, the man exited the stadium via Edwin Flack Drive and allegedly damaged a boom gate before running away.

Following a short foot pursuit, police stopped the man. OC spray was deployed after he allegedly raised a traffic pole above the head of a male senior constable.

He was re-arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with resist officer in execution of duty, assault officer in execution of duty, destroy or damage property, and two counts of common assault.

The Winston Hills has been refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Tuesday 6 April 2021).
