Man in custody after barricade incident in Redfern

A man is under guard at hospital after a barricade situation in Redfern overnight, NSW Police say.

Just after 6pm today, police attended a unit on Mcevoy Street, Waterloo, to speak to a man after an alleged assault.

The man hid inside the unit and threatened officers.

A perimeter was established and specialist police were called to the scene to assist.

Just after 10pm, police gained entry and a 35-year-old man armed with knives was taken into police custody.

He was taken to hospital under police guard, where he remains.

No one was injured during the incident.

Inquiries are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
