Man in custody after house fire and siege in Oakhurst

A man is in custody following a house fire and siege in Sydney’s west overnight, NSW Police say.

Just before 11.45pm (Tuesday 6 February 2018), police were called to a home on Cook Road at Oakhurst, following reports a man had barricaded himself in a room.

Shortly after, smoke was seen coming from the room and family members evacuated.

Officers from Mount Druitt Local Area Command attended.

The 26-year-old man was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard, where he will undergo an assessment.

The blaze was extinguished, causing moderate damage to a bedroom. No one was injured.

Inquiries continue.
