Man in custody after incident at New Town pharmacy, SA

A man is in custody after allegedly threatening staff at a Kadina pharmacy with a firearm, according to SA Police.

Police were called to the chemist on Port Road, New Town just after 5.20pm on Friday 21 September by reports a man had entered the business with a gun.

The man allegedly demanded and self-administered prescription medication. He subsequently collapsed.

Staff evacuated the premises prior to police arrival.

Police were concerned for the man's welfare and quickly entered the premises. The 43-year-old Wallaroo man was taken to the Wallaroo Hospital in a critical condition where he remains under police guard. A firearm was seized by police.

Fortunately, no staff members at the pharmacy were physically injured during the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
