Man in custody after pursuit, crash – St Johns Park

A man has been arrested following a pursuit after allegedly attempting to avoid a random breath test in Sydney’s west earlier today.

Just before 11am (Tuesday 27 October 2020), officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command attempted to stop a blue Mitsubishi Lancer on Meadows Road, Mount Pritchard, for the purposes of a random breath test.

The driver allegedly accelerated from the scene, before turning left onto Hamel Road.

A pursuit was initiated through Mount Pritchard, Bonnyrigg and St Johns Park.

On Brisbane Road at St Johns Park, police observed sparks coming from the front wheel of the Mitsubishi and terminated the pursuit.

Shortly after, the Mitsubishi crashed into a grey Volkswagen Passat parked near the intersection of Brisbane Road and Corinda Street.

The driver exited the vehicle and allegedly fled on foot.

Police pursued the man through nearby properties, and with the assistance of the Dog Unit and PolAir, he was located hiding in bushes.

The man allegedly ran from police a second time, before he was arrested in the front yard of a home on Brisbane Road at St Johns Park.

The 28-year-old man was taken to Fairfield Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

Upon release from hospital, the man is expected to be charged.
