Man in custody following Docklands hit-run

Melbourne Highway Patrol members have interviewed a man in relation to an alleged hit-run collision at Docklands last Tuesday, Victoria Police say.

The 23-year-old attended Melbourne North Police Station this afternoon and is currently in custody, assisting police with their enquiries.

The Altona North man is expected to front Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tonight where he will be charged with fail to stop and render assistance at the scene of an accident and other traffic-related offences.

The charges relate to an incident where a man in a wheelchair was struck by a car on Bourke Street, near the intersection of Cumberland Street and Seafarers Lane, about 1.20pm.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.
