Police are investigating a home invasion and vehicle fire in Sydney's south west.
About 1.45am (Tuesday 22 July 2025), emergency services were called to Abbott Street, Merrylands following reports of a home invasion.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command were told a group of four men – wearing face coverings and armed with bats, knives and a pistol – forced entry to the home and assaulted a 47-year-old male occupant before running from the location.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial injuries before being taken to Auburn Hospital for further treatment.
Three other occupants present at the time – all females aged 45, 18 and 13 – were uninjured.
A short time later police responded to reports of a car on fire at Elizabeth Street, Granville.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, the vehicle – a Suzuki Swift - was destroyed.
A crime scene was established at both locations and an investigation into the incidents has commenced, including whether the two incidents are linked.
